  6. Starting 2014, reading your blog becomes my habit before bed time every night. Too bad that most of the older video being removed. I am so touched when you wrote about the fruit given by a parent who drive a long way and she helped her son to a good college by reading your blog. I don’t know how to express my appreciation to you and Ann for sharing lots of useful information which benefit lots of Asian parents including me. My goal is to catch up information on your blog all the way back to 2011.

I attended your seminar couple months ago at El Monte. I went to many large and small scale seminar by other company before and this is my first seminar with HS2. My feeling is so different. Not only your material are well prepared but also you present it with your heart. Honestly, I feel it. Too bad that I could not say thank to you after the seminar.

We attended the seminar by Ann yesterday at Arcadia. It is great too. Plus we met with Aileen and I have to say Aileen did a great job too. We are pretty sure that Hs2 is what we want as you and Ann are teacher. We had bad experience dealing with lawyer who are also in education field too. But my son wants to meet with the counselor who will work with him for future 3 years to final our decision. My son is an incoming 10th grade at WHS interested in biomedical science. Please see who will be our counselor who has biomedical science background at Walnut office. If not, we don’t mind driving to San Mario or Arcadia office. We just want to find the right fit for my son. My husband ask for credential of your counselor yesterday but Ann said it is not available yet. Please arrange for us as we want to start ASAP. Million thanks.

    • Dear Yuen Yuen,

Thank you so much for your gratitude and your wonderful comments. People just like you are the reason that we put so much heart into our work; we are here to help you! I consider myself an educator, so I always hope that through my work I can inspire children and families to seek education and always be learning.

Here at HS2, we pride ourselves in our professionalism, so rest assured, your child will be well taken care of. Unfortunately, only our students are allowed to meet with our counselors, so we cannot schedule a meeting with your family and one of our counselors until you are a student of HS2. The reason is there are a couple more factors besides majors that determine which counselor one is paired with. Biomedical science is actually the most popular major among Asians, so we use other methods to find a compatible counselor for each student. We require that all of our non-seniors take the Highlands Ability Test in order to correctly match them to a suitable counselor. Additionally, our counselors are not involved at all with student registration; their work solely involves guiding the student throughout high school. We try to maintain an air of professionalism; therefore, we do not encourage our counselors to try to recruit students.

I hope you understand my explanation and that it answers all your inquiries. I wish you and your family the best of luck.

  7. Thanks for your clear explanation. I totally understand and agree your point and concerns I talked to my son and he has few questions regarding consistency, flexibility and background.

    1) will he be seeing by the same counselor for future 3 years?
    2) if chemistry is not right with his counselor, can he requests another counselor?
    3) does the counselor familiar with WHS activities, club and classes?

Unlike lots of Asian parent as you mention during seminar. I hesitate to encourage my son to pursuit pre-med as it requires long term commitment in both time and money. Many students give up before they reach the finish line. However, he told me his goal is to be a doctor in Elementary. I did not pay attention at that time. Then he told me he wants to be a surgeon in Middle School and surgeon in heart and liver transplant in High school. He wishes he could be one of the no boundary doctor. I think this is because he saw how I suffer from chemotherapy when he was at second grade. He helped took care of me by serving my meal and comforting me. He starts putting lots of burden on his shoulder and I simply just want him to have an easy and happy life. So I wish his counselor could guide him to the right path base on his personality and ability. It is not necessary to be a doctor as long as he could contribute back to the community. It is indeed a luxury to be in a career of your own dream. I hope he is willing to join HS2. Thanks
